Community Spotlight: Sterling Shelter

Animals provide us with companionship and put a smile on our faces. It’s always heartwarming when you hear a cat purr or see a dog’s tail going a mile a minute. If you’re looking to help animals out in your community, check out the Sterling Shelter.

Humane Society

Commitment to Caring for Animals

The Sterling Animal Shelter has been helping our 4-legged friends since 1988. Their goal is to provide dogs and cats with complete care and help them find permanent homes. They make sure these prospective pets are comfortable, too. It’s easy to walk up to the shelter and confuse it for a big house with a welcoming pool.

On top of looking for future foster parents for these animals, the shelter offers all sorts of services, too. They provide spaying and neutering for pups and kitties, plus offer training for dogs that are new to living with families. Above all, they want every animal, young and old, to live a happy and healthy life.

Humane Society Volunteer

Help a Furry Friend in Need

This non-profit shelter runs entirely on donations from animal lovers and local businesses. Making a donation is easy, but you can also support them by visiting businesses that they’ve partnered with. For example, River Styx Brewery helped with their fundraising by throwing hosting Pups for Pints.

You can also help out by donating a couple hours to volunteer. You’ll get to spend time with animals and help their social development. No matter how old an animal is, spending quality time with a caring person can help its long-term social skills and behavior.

Whether you fall in love with an animal while you’re there or you’ve been wanting to get a pet for a while, you can give the ultimate gift by providing a dog or cat a new, permanent home. The shelter even hosts adoption events, where you can come with an open heart and go home with a new companion.
