Accord vs Camry: Safety Options

2019 Toyota Camry

The 2019 Toyota Camry and 2019 Honda Accord are both seen as highly safe automobiles. That's because they each come standard with lots of driver-assisting technologies.

In the Toyota Camry, you get Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P), while the Accord comes with Honda Sensing®. These suites were designed to alert you to things you might miss while driving, so that you don't get into an accident.

With TSS-P, you get features like:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: Will warn you if you're getting too close to a person or another vehicle. If you don't hit the brakes in time, this system can do it for you.
  • Automatic High Beams: Designed to automatically switch between high and low beams to help you see better at night without blinding other drivers.

Honda Sensing® comes with similar features, to help protect you on the road. However, the Accord earned a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). While commendable, it doesn't top the Camry, which earned a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+rating (along with a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK+rating) from the IIHS.1

2019 Accord vs 2019 Camry: Infotainment Systems

Not only can the technologies in the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord help keep you safe, but they can help keep you connected and entertained, as well.

They both come standard with infotainment systems that include a 7-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth® technology. Plus, the Camry comes standard with Apple CarPlay™, while the Accord offers that in a higher trim level. Just plug your iPhone into the vehicle's USB port, and you can access your favorite apps without messing with your phone while driving.

Plus, everyone can stay happy en route, thanks to the standard Wi-Fi® Connect Powered by Verizon feature found in the Toyota model. With this 4G LTE hotspot, up to five devices can be connected to the internet, no matter where you travel.

The Honda has a similar feature. However, you'll have to upgrade to a higher trim level to get it.

Honda Accord vs Toyota Camry: Performance Specs

2019 Toyota Camry

The good news is that the 2019 Accord and 2019 Camry offer agile handling and a comfortable ride quality. But if you're wanting a powerful and efficient sedan, then the Toyota model may be a better fit for you.

That's because it comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. If you're looking for a bit more power, then the available 3.5L V6 should do the trick, as it produces 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

The Accord, meanwhile, comes standard with a 1.5L 4-cylinder and offers a 2.0L 4-cylinder. Unfortunately, the more powerful engine can't keep up with the one in the Camry. That's because it produces just 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Additionally, the Camry offers slightly better fuel economy, with an EPA-estimated 29 city/41 highway MPG.2With the Accord, you get an EPA-estimated 30 city/38 highway MPG. Although the city rating is a bit higher in the Honda, the Toyota will let you travel on the highway for much longer before needing to refuel.

2019 Honda Accord vs 2019 Toyota Camry: Verdict

As you can see, the 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Toyota Camry are pretty neck in neck when it comes to their offerings. However, the Camry has a better safety rating, more standard tech, and an all-around better performance.
